Judge Duffy is in the forefront of the judicial system as it relates to the sentencing of defendants for low level crimes as a result of addiction to drugs and alcohol. Treatment instead of incarceration is the only way to fight our national epidemic of addiction, she says. This judge understands that addiction is a disease that needs to be treated like any other chronic condition.
