I was on a jury panel study where we heard facts and determined a case of a man who was self-employed with multiple kids and grandchildren. He passed away after an injury resulted in a need for pain relief and became addicted. He had an accidental overdose of a combination of heroin and opioids and he had been in care for over 3 years. The doctor and pharmacy ignored many red flags of the state but shouldn’t his family have known that he needed a second opinion and a different doctor and some kind of a treatment program before the situation became so bad that he probably was threatening towards them and passed away?
